“Spring Fling” West Coast Rally March 19-23, 2015

Nevada Treasure RV Resort – Pahrump, Nevada

Rally Summary

.

Pahrump, Nevada was the place to be this year for the West Coast Workhorse Rally.  Twenty-three coaches arrived in Southern Nevada, just East of Death Valley for four days of fun and friendship.

.

The rally began on Thursday evening with a Welcome Happy Hour including adult beverages and appetizers organized by wagon masters, Ray & Teri Loud along with Troy & Lois Thompson.  Ray Loud, Vice President of Rallies greeted the club and discussed all the activities planned for the next four days.  Friday morning began with a full breakfast catered by Nevada Treasure RV Resort followed by a seminar by Ultra RV Products.  Great info and online parts availability were discussed and lots of questions and answers followed well after the seminar.  The ladies of the club joined together later in the morning for a “Stitch and Chat”, and had some time to get to know each other a little better.

.

Friday’s lunch was “on your own” and several of our members took the opportunity to visit the World Famous Sheri’s Ranch.  Sheri’s is a local brothel, sports bar, spa, and hotel.  Members enjoyed lunch in the sports bar followed by a tour of the parlor and back rooms by one of the working ladies.   That’s something you don’t get to do every day!

.

Later in the day, Sanders Family Winery provided wine tasting for members along with some great story telling.  Jack Sanders provided the commentary throughout the tasting and gave lots of pointers on how to best enjoy the wines.  A catered dinner of Herb Roasted Chicken and all the trimmings followed and entertainment was provided by Comedian, Richard Weiss.  Friday was a big day!

.

Saturday began with another full catered breakfast followed by the WCMC business meeting.  Ray Loud chaired the brief meeting and members had all of Saturday to explore the area.  Many of the members took a day trip to Death Valley National Park.  Other activities to see and do included:  China Date Ranch, Hot Air Balloon Festival, Casinos, Red Rock Canyon Driving Tour, and additional wine tasting at two local wineries.

.

Ultra RV Products owner Steve Brazel and General Manager Alan Sanders provided free goodie bags, plus free diagnostic and installation services to our members throughout the rally.  Spark plug wires were sold by Ultra, belts and spark plugs were flying off the shelves in Pahrump as our members bought out every last Workhorse Chassis part they could find.  Ultra RV Products was a key participant, sponsoring our evening beverage services for the entire event.  We couldn’t have done it without those guys!

.

Sunday began with a Continental breakfast followed by another seminar with Ultra RV Products.  The ladies filled in their morning with a Spring Card & Bunny Box Class led by member, Cheryl Braney.  The afternoon found us at the Pahrump Nugget Casino for a Slot Tournament.  Twenty-eight members tried their luck for two rounds on the Slot Reels.  We were all cheering each other on and made quite a scene in the casino, gathering quite a crowd!

.

The highest scores were recorded and kept secret until the dinner hour.  The slot tournament winners were presented with winning envelopes for the highest number of points.  The winners were Bob Bos 1st place $75.00, Anne Schwartz 2nd place $50.00 and Drennan Parsons 3rd place $25.00.

.

The Nye County Animal Shelter (Tails End) was chosen as our local charity.  The West Coast WCMC routinely chooses a local charity to support with portions of our 50/25/25 raffle proceeds (Tails End gets the 50%).  In addition, a request for dry pet food was made to the WCMC members and a grand total of 845 pounds of pet food was given to Tails End Animal Shelter along with $722 in cash donations from our generous members.  Dan Moynahan and Lee Haeberlin were the winners of the raffle at $85.00 each and they donated their winnings to the animal shelter.  There were tears in the eyes of the Shelter Manager as she accepted the donations, the need is so great and we hope our club eased the burden just a little.

.

Members were asked to bring items for a silent auction to be held during our happy hour and dinner on Saturday.  All proceeds were also directed to Tails End, the local animal shelter.  One of the gift baskets donated by Dan & Sue Moynahan was fought over until settling on a $100 winning bid.  Salisbury steak with all the trimmings was on the menu.

.

Monday morning was check-out day, and many of our members were caravanning to the FMCA Rally in Pomona, California.  We waved goodbye to our friends and look forward to the next Workhorse Rally.
